SCS Contract Cleaning – Health & Safety Policy

STATEMENT OF INTENT

SCS Contract Cleaning has a strong commitment to operating its business in a safe, healthy, responsible and secure way.

It is Company policy to conduct its business in a manner that ensures the health, safety and welfare of its employees, neighbours, customers and the public. The Company will endeavour do all that is reasonable to prevent personal injury and protect everyone from foreseeable hazards arising out of its work.

The Company accepts there is a responsibility to comply with the regulations that affect the nature of their business, and aims to achieve a minimum standard of compliance.

The promotion of good health and safety measures is regarded as a mutual objective of management and employees at all levels.

The Company accepts its responsibility to:

  1. Provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, taking account of any statutory requirements
  2. Provide training and instruction to enable employees to perform their work safely
  3. Maintain a constant and continuing interest in health and safety matters pertaining to the Company activities
  4. Ensure that managers set an example in safe behaviour
  5. Consult with employees regarding arrangements for health and safety

ORGANISATION

The board of Directors are responsible for:

  1. Identifying and allocating health and safety responsibilities
  2. Allocating resources for health and safety measures
  3. Ensuring safe systems of work and procedures for implementing the Company Safety Policy are produced in conjunction with supervisors and employees
  4. Identifying and providing necessary training to ensure, so far as reasonably practical, the health and safety of employees, other people under their influence, and anyone else whose health and safety may be affected by the nature of the work
  5. Enforcing the Company safety policy and taking remedial action where breaches occur eg. Disciplinary action where health and safety has been compromised, or for persistent breaches of the safety policy requirements
  6. Ascertaining details of required standards contained in statutory regulations and approved codes of practice and applying such standards in both design and operation
  7. Ensuring this Policy is kept under review

Supervisors implementing procedures detailed by the directors to control the working environment.

  1. Organising supervision to adequately control the working environment and maintain safe standards of working and high standards of house keeping
  2. Ensuring that employees are adequately trained to work safely
  3. Investigating accidents that occur with the aim of establishing the cause and preventing recurrence

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employees to promote and maintain a high standard of health and safety though co-operation with managers by:

  1. Conducting themselves in a manner that protects their health and safety and that of neighbours, visitors and the public
  2. Employing safe working practices and adhering to the Company Procedures for securing a safe workplace
  3. Ensuring that devices provided for the purpose of protecting health and safety is used at all times
  4. Never interfering with, or altering any device provided for the protection of health and safety, in such a manner that it no longer protects health and safety
  5. Reporting defects in such devices
  6. Reporting incidents and accidents as they occur and assisting in the investigation of such occurrences with the aim of identifying measures to be implemented to prevent a recurrence

ARRANGEMENTS

Arrangements have been made for the implementation of this Safety Policy through:

  1. The appointment of managers and supervisors
  2. Assigning responsibilities to managers, supervisors and other key personnel
  3. Provision of safe and suitable equipment, plant and machinery
  4. Induction training
  5. Job training under supervision
  6. Risk assessments and the development of safe systems of work
  7. The Company’s driving safety policy for employees permitted to use company vehicles
  8. Specific job training
  9. Regular maintenance machinery used
  10. Inspection and testing of safety devices by competent persons at appropriate intervals
  11. Communication between employees and management
  12. Provision of first aid
